Career Transition Scholarship
This $3,000 scholarship provided by the Osteopathic Founders Foundation, to be used during the recipient’s next year of study, will annually recognize, honor, and encourage one osteopathic medical student who has had a previous career and made the transition to OSU to pursue a new career in osteopathic medicine.
The recipient will be selected by a committee of the Board of Directors from all applications received from the combined OSU-COM campuses.
The application will open open on February 1st and close at 5:00pm on March 31st annually.
2024 was the inaugural year for this scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria
* Rising OMS II, OMS III or OMS IV student
* Five years of professional experience, (including military service) prior to medical school matriculation
Required Documents for Application
* Personal statement reflecting the reason for your interest in transitioning to a career in osteopathic medicine, a description of current activities which support osteopathic healthcare, and a discussion of your goals of practice as an osteopathic physician. (written by applicant)

* CV
Additional Information
Applicants will be reviewed based on the following criteria…
* Clearly describe the decision to transition to a career in osteopathic medicine.
* Displays a commitment, in current activities, to osteopathic medicine through participation in activities supporting the college and profession.
* Future practice goals support osteopathic healthcare.
After the committee reviews the applications, each applicant will be notified of his/her status. Please allow 6-8 weeks for the notification from the close of the application.

2024 Career Transition Scholarship

The recipient of the inaugural 2024 Career Transition Scholarship is Covenant Elenwo. Covenant received a degree in biology from the University of Oklahoma, a Masters of Public Health / Maternal & Child Health from Saint Louis University College of Public Health with a Global Health Practicum in Senegal, and is currently a student at the Cherokee Nation campus. The desire to become a physician began as a small child in The Gambia, Africa watching interactions between family members and the physicians in that community. She has published over 13 manuscripts, has 32 combined poster and oral presentations, and numerous awards and honors. Covenant plans to pursue a career as a dermatologist working in underserved communities locally and abroad.
